About Conistone with Kilnsey

This area of beautiful and often dramatic limestone scenery offers much of interest and to enjoy for locals and visitors alike: walking, cycling, fishing, archaeology and history, botany and - of course - climbing.

Kilnsey Crag is perhaps our most well known landmark. It is a breathtaking limestone cliff around 170 feet high, which attracts climbers to the area for the challenging experience of climbing its 40-foot overhang.

Kilnsey

Kilnsey is a small settlement located on the B6160 road about 12 miles from Skipton. It has one pub with   rooms, the Tennant Arms, and  Kilnsey Park  , which has a restaurant on site and is very popular with tourists and day visitors as it has a wide range of attractions for both young and old .

Each year, on the Tuesday after August Bank Holiday, the village hosts Kilnsey Show, a large agricultural event held in the shadow of Kilnsey Crag. The Upper Wharfedale Agricultural Society, which organises and runs the show, was   founded and held its first show in 1897.  Kilnsey Show  has grown and diversified over the years to become one of the country's largest one-day agricultural events, attracting exhibitors, competitors and over  10,000 visitors from near and far.

Conistone

Just across the river on the opposite side of the valley is the small village of Conistone.  Here you will find St. Mary's parish church, which is of medieval origin, and nearby the Maypole surrounded by seats for visitors.  There is also a nineteenth-century Methodist chapel which is now a hostel used by visiting groups.
Conistone offers limestone scenery almost as spectacular as Kilnsey Crag, including Gurling Trough, Conistone Dib, and the outcrop known as Conistone Pie from which there are spectacular views up and down the Dale. 
Conistone is also the home of a long established horse and pony Trekking Centre.
Conistone with Kilnsey Parish

The two villages form the Conistone with Kilnsey Parish. Residents meet twice a year to deal with matters affecting the local community.

Neighbouring Villages

Just a short drive away are the villages of Grassington, Kettlewell and Arncliffe. The whole Upper Wharfedale area offers excellent opportunities for walkers of all standards and the Dalesway long-distance footpath passes just above the village of Conistone.
